CarComplaints.com Notes: You should probably steer clear of the 2012 Focus. Otherwise, you might not be able to steer at all.
The 2012 is the first Focus to offer Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS). It's also the first year with massive power steering failure. These things are not mutually exclusive.
For the past several months I have noticed that the fabric on the back window of my hatchback has been disintegrating to the point of now no longer being able to properly close my hatchback without the fabric becoming stuck on the window, leaving the contents of the trunk exposed (the entire purpose of the fabric). I asked the Fox Ford Lincoln to replace the fabric and was informed that it would cost $135.14 to replace both sides of the fabric. I am not going to have this replaced as it will cost me $135 to replace a part that disintegrated just from use.
I noticed it peeling and flaking within the first year by 2014 it was all disintegrated and a mess in the back window. I wouldn't have thought Ford would use such cheap materials.
The foam in the back window disintegrates and looks disgusting. I noticed it after about 25k miles and had it replaced while it was under warranty. About 25k miles later I noticed it again. It looks horrible but I'm not paying to have it fixed again considering it is just for looks.
The fabric in the back window has disintegrated. They state that it was caused by the sun. I saw several references online that it happened to other Ford Focuses. It would cost $150 to fix but I feel if they install cheap crappy fabric, they should replace it. As I am retired and on fixed income and this doesn't affect the drive-ability of the car, I did not get it fixed though it doesn't say much for how Ford cares about their products. This probably ranks the lowest of my complaints but I have more.
This was fixed once Under warranty and replaced. They said NO we've never heard of that happening. BULLSHIT, the car has a history of it happening and the replacement part has done the same thing!
