CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Nissan Altima has multiple problem trends including the CVT transmission, and now that this model is out of warranty, it earns our "Avoid Like The Plague" badge.

Owners complain about vibration and transmission failure related to the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), a whining noise from the power steering pump, and constant windshield problems that appear to be the result of poor design.

Be warned: the 2014 & 2015 Nissan Altima appears to share these same problems.

When this first happened it felt like someone hit me, the car stalled. When I started it, it started right away but when I put it in gear the same thing happened. After about15 tries it finally didn't stall. When I took it in for repair it didn't register on the computer.

Had the problem on June 19th. Nissan fixed a different problem on the car but not the problem with the car feeling like I was hit in the rear and the the car stalling and every time I put it in gear it stalls again. Took it back to Nissan but again it didn't register on the computer. They had the car for a week and a half and never fixed it. Said next time it happens don't turn off the car and bring it right in.

I have only had the car for two and a half years and first week the battery went and I was out of town. And they had to give me a new battery. And now this problem with the car starting and when I put it into drive it shut off and I have to try several times with the same thing happening. And for the oil changes the book they give you is only for a year, if you take the car in when it tells you to. I brought the car letting them know that I have to drive an hour and 10 minutes a day for five days a week to work, and the finance man told me that when the coupons run out to come see him and he would give me more. Well, that never happen, they tried to say that I lied on him. And then someone called me from the Nissan Dealer ship and told me that they did me a favor to get me the car, and I did them a favor to buy the car from them. Just be careful in dealing with the dealers and get what the promises before you leave the dealership. The car is more trouble to me and it's not even paid for yet.

Update from Apr 7, 2016: About after 6 months, I went back to the Dealer and told them that the Car was stalling and it was a hesitation starting the car, and they went out with me and I let them here it and they said it was nothing wrong with the car. So I came home and it keep doing it. So I did not brother them. But it never stop doing it. So when I took it in for service I told the service guy and they said they would check it out, but never saw it on ticket, so when I ask them they said yes they did and nothing was wrong. Now the First of April my car stop when I stopped at a traffic light I could not get the car to start for about 30 minute every time I put it in drive it would shout off. Finally I got it to run and went back to the dealer and they said they could not find nothing wrong with the car. So I came home, and decided to take it back because I had a long way to drive to work that morning and did not want it to stop on me on the main highway with tucks and all. And so I asked if someone could go on a ride with me to see what I was talking about and the Service manager went and before we could leave the parking lot it did it and he said oh no take it back and we will see what is going on. Well the transmission it gone and now its out of warranty and it coast 5000.00 to fix it . And I still owe money on a 2 and a half year old car.
