CarComplaints.com Notes: You should probably steer clear of the 2012 Focus. Otherwise, you might not be able to steer at all.

The 2012 is the first Focus to offer Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS). It's also the first year with massive power steering failure. These things are not mutually exclusive.

And while you wait for your steering to disappear, you'll be greeted with a transmission that shudders, vibrates or won't shift at all.

Takata recall, first off is the driver door comes unlocked while driving, also had a door lock and wasn't able to close. My 2012 Focus feels like it's got no power alot of times or will start to spudder from every stop. Does same when reversing out of a drive way. Sometimes it seems like it wants to stall, I have the automatic. It revs at really high rpms like it needs to shift but doesn't. probably have more issues the longer I keep it, I believe the huffines dealership, the company that financed and Ford knew these things could and did happen to the car I was sold. Single father with a 4 year old son just trying to get this fixed nothing about this is safe.

Recall # 16S30 side door latch replacement remedy was never performed on vehicle in 2016. I just purchased car on October 27, 2018 and there is a problem with the door closing which leads me to believe it is because the remedy was never performed. The vehicle was at the dealership when I discovered a problem with the door.

I was driving and my rear left door flew open when making a right turn out of a parking lot, now I shut my right front door and it won't latch. I've never received a notification about a recall. This should be fixed before a child flies out of a car. My car only has 55K miles on it. This is pretty sad.

Door will not close and latch. Therefore it will fly open when driving if it is not tied to something else in the car. This happened spontaneously with an accident, but during regular use.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the front passenger door latch was inoperable. Grieco Ford of fort lauderdale (1333 N federal hwy, fort lauderdale, fl 33304, (954) 390-6400) informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16V643000 (latches/locks/linkages). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000. Consumer stated my issue is related to recall 16S30-side door latch replacement. My car's VIN isn't listed as one of the affected units, despite the fact that my car has experienced the very issue related to this recall! consumer already had to repair three doors and was not able to drive car due the driver's side front door not able to latch shut. The manufacturer declined to assist with repairs.

I had the door actuators/latches replaced in may of 2017. The left rear door actuator replaced under the recall failed again and the door does not latch closed. I spoke with the dealership that replaced the actuators under the recall and was told that they will only warranty the actuators for 12 months from the installation date. I called Ford customer care and was told that they would not replace the actuators under the recall and that I would be responsible for the cost of the repair. Either the part did not get replaced as the dealership says it did, or the recalled parts are failing in the same way that the oem parts are failing.

The drivers side passenger door will not lock or close. It will fly open when the vehicle is in motion. My daughter was in the backseat buckled up when the door which was locked, flew open on the highway as I went around a turn. I have to keep it strapped shut with a rope so it doesn't fly open and hurt someone, and I can't have my daughter in the car because it is unsafe. Even if I had it in a different seat who knows if the other doors will go too. It does not close or lock at all, even when not turning the door just hangs open. I saw there was a recall but when I entered my VIN number it says it's not a part of the recall.

Door latch did not catch as we were going home from dinner on Sunday 4-22-18 with my sister sitting in the back seat behind the driver. We luckily were in the parking lot of the restaurant when my husband saw it was not closing as it should. In order to drive it home safely we had to use the seat belt to hold the door as closed as possible with my sister also holding it as we had many miles to drive to our home. This was a part that Ford replaced in 2017 due to a recall. Was this part defective too. It would seem to me it should last more than 13 months. Ford will not do anything to help with the cost to correct which is excessive.

I received a notice of recall from Ford in October 2016 (re: Door latch). I attempted to get my scheduled for repairs and was told that they did not have the parts, but when they have parts they would contact me. I took my vehicle in for scheduled maintenance (and some other issues) Feb/March. 2017 and asked that they repair my vehicle for this same recall. Again, told they did not have parts, but would let us know when they did. I made an appointment with the dealership (again) for August 2017 to have vehicle looked at for warranty work and have the recall fixed. When I picked up the vehicle I was told they still did not have parts, but should have them next week (current week) and will call when they come in and I can get it fixed. I have received at least 2 letters from Ford stating I need to get this recall fixed; but, the dealership (same one each time) does not call when part comes in and has failed to repair my vehicle after multiple attempts. Dealership: Marshall Ford in ofallon, mo 63366.

I went to get my oil changed someplace other than my Ford dealership and since, the car has been running oddly. Mostly issues with accelerating after sitting at a red light on roads where the speed is anywhere from 35 to 45 mph. It doesn't happen all the time, but I noticed it about a week after the oil change. The other issue, that is more cause for alarm, is that the doors will not close completely. First it was the passenger front door, then the passenger rear door and finally the driver rear door. All while stationary, thank goodness. Since then, all but the driver's side front door have been secured with bungee cords for the last few weeks, because I did not have the funds to replace the door latches. One of which had been replaced only last year and cost me nearly $500 because the part hadn't been on recall! I then found out today that there is a recall on said parts that began in January 2017 but I have yet to be notified by my dealership! I only noticed because I wanted to see -if- there had been a recall due to hearing about a few other people having this same type of issue. See photos of bungee corded doors. This is extremely dangerous and those who own this same model of car should be notified immediately of a recall, not when parts are available. I would never have known had I not thought of doing my own research. I may never had known if I was waiting on my dealership to notify me... I may have been seriously injured or worse if I had waited on them.

Having issues with car being repaired. Door handle latch is broken and I am currently using wire to assure it stays closed. Experiencing this for 5+ months now. Service station would not fix for free at first because an "official" recall was not issues, even though this was an extremely common issue with this cars year, one that I was unaware of. Once I received the recall notice they canceled my initial appointment due to backup. They rescheduled my appointment for July of this year. Extremely dangerous scenario and the manufacturer is unwilling to expedite my services. Is there any course of action to take?

There is a current recall for my door latch. My door has now stopped latching. I called the dealer when I received my recall notice and was told there were no parts available and that I would receive a call when the parts were available. This was 4 months ago. Now that my door will not latch I am told that I can bring it in, but they do not have parts, cannot guarantee a loaner, and that I have to sign a waiver stating I will pay $180 for an inspection if it is not part of the recall. I am very disappointed and unwilling to possibly pay for them to inspect my vehicle. I also have an issue with my transmission while driving. Once my car still showed in drive, but was in neutral while I was driving at 40 mph with cars behind me. I had to pull to the side of the road and place the car in park and back into drive. I have had 2 similar incidents since then, though the car still worked, but felt like I was grinding my gears. All were on city streets, luckily not the highway.

I received notification of a recall on door latches that need to be replaced. It also stated that a reimbursment for a replacement is also included and will take 60 days to process. Once I received my letter I sent in the paperwork for reimbursment of a left rear door latch assembly along with the original receipt. I have yet to receive my check for the work done. It is now 30 days over the date that the documents were mailed in on October 20th, 2016. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).'
