CarComplaints.com Notes: For the third year in a row, the 3rd generation Focus is experiencing massive transmission problems.
Most notably owners keep complaining about how there's bad hesitation and jerking when starting from a stop. This isn't the result of an old, worn out part. In fact, the average mileage it's reported to us is just over 15k miles.

This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.

Vacuum seal on gas tank is faulty and gets air bubbles and the car cuts off at random. It cut off in the middle of an intersection yesterday and I almost got hit. I've reported this issue multiple times. Several other ones were recalled but not my VIN number but it's the exact same issue.
My 2014 Ford Focus engine dies when it rains. It started to run rough when it rained about a year ago and then the engine died going 55 mph when it was raining. Had engine wire replaced and it was fine for a week or so while it was dry. 1st time it rained it died again going 50mph. Took it in again and had cylinder and computer box replaced (crazy only 4 years old). Ran fine again until it rained and it died again while driving on highway. When it dies you are put in a very bad situation. Someone could definitely die. I give up. It is sitting in our driveway because we put $800 into it getting fixed and so far no luck. If I knew it could be fixed I would take it in. The car does not restart when it gets dry out again. I try jumping it and fuse 38 blows every time. Is there a recall on this? it is a very scary problem and I see this has happened to multiple people on the web.
Transmission faulty. Car wont reverse. Car drags when trying to accelerate. I also received a court notice in the mail regarding powershift dual-clutch automatic transmission problems.my check engine light came on. Notifications appeared on my car saying transmission problem service asap.
I have a 2014 Ford Focus that is currently having transmission issues. I took my vehicle to a Ford dealership hoping it was under warranty and that they would fix it. They told me that my vehicle is not under warranty since it was built in November of 2013 and that 14M01 only applies to those that have cars built before July 3, 2013. My issue with that is that Ford noted that "vehicles having a build date of June 6, 2013 or later have improved transmission input shaft seals that are not likely to experience leaks." Obviously their "improved transmission input shaft seals" are not improved since my car with 60,000 un abused miles has encountered transmission issues. I would just like to see what my legal options are with this lawsuit as I don't think its right my vehicle is not eligible for this lawsuit. I believe that Ford never improved their input shaft seals since I encountered the same problem that was recalled.

When I come to a stop after doing freeway speeds 70-75 mph for 30 minutes it gives me a high temp warning. When I stopped to check under the hood it didn't look, or smell hot, but the warning light indicated high temp in the engine.
My 2014 Ford Focus transmission gets hot and is not changing gear while driving after I got it from the Ford dealer service center in ga 01/2018. It won't start because the transmission gets hot so I have to let it cool down before I can crank it. It cuts off while I'm driving. I have bought a front and rear dash cam to record and upload live video and an additional cam to for dashboard to show the red (I) light and engine light that remains on while I'm driving. I had a new battery, tcm module, clutch and clutch motor put on 12/2017, but I can't drive the car, it won't back up hills, it looses speed, don't change gears, again, I just got it out the shop!!! I have to drive it because it is the only transportation I have, so I am videoing every trip in case the whilethe car is jumping gear or transmission gets hot and car turn off while I'm driving, I can have an accurate account of an accident due to the transmission issue I am having with. I hope that the overheating doesn't cause a fire, but, if that happens, it would be recorded on my dashcam and I will post in social media.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact shifted the gear into park, then into neutral, and powered off the engine. The vehicle was restarted but hesitated to accelerate. The contact powered off the engine a second time. The vehicle was restarted and was able to drive normally. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
While under warranty I was driving and the engine shut off. I had to coast to the shoulder on the expressway. This happened four times during the warranty and 6 times since the warranty expired. While sitting at a red light, the light turns green and I begin to accelerate. The engine stalled fours times and three other times it almost stalled. I took the car to the dealer while it was under warranty and only once they said they found a problem with the transmission. They replaced some small part but it continues to happen. One of the times it stalled I took a picture of the message on the dash board. It said: Engine failure service immediately. I showed that photo to the service manager and mechanic at Ford. Both of them said the same thing: "I've never seen that before". makes you feel good about the car you bought from them.also, the rear drivers side door won't open most of the time on the first attempt. I have to pull the handle two or three times before the door will open. For replaced some part on the doors because of a recall but that didn't fix the problem. It still does it. This posting asks you to specify the date of occurrence. It has happened so regularly now there are too many dates to list. I lsted may of 2014 when I bought the car. From then on it has had problem after problem after problem.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. On several occasions, while driving various speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle hesitated for 10 to 15 miles before it accelerated at normal speeds. On another occasion, while driving, the engine revved and the vehicle stalled. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to coccia Ford Lincoln Inc (577 E main St, wilkes-barre, pa 18702, (570) 823-8888) on several occasions where it was diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced. The clutch was replaced, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The contact was transferred to the NHTSA hotline. The VIN was invalid. The approximate failure mileage was 27,080.
I bought my first brand new car a 2014 Ford Focus. I decided to go with a new car to have less problems in the long run. Boy was I wrong. After only 25000 miles my car began having transmission problems. I then brought it into the dealership and found out that Ford had issued a recall on the transmission module. So I had that replaced free of charge. My car now has 45000 miles on it and it began causing me problems again, so I thought it was the same thing as before. I brought it into the dealership to have it checked out. After a day of waiting I received a call entailing all that was wrong with my car. This time it as much worse, my catalytic converter needed to be replaced which I was told this was covered by my warranty. Now the next part I was told is the reason I am here writing this compliant. The dealership told me that my fuel tank had collapsed, and it was going to cost me upwards of $2100 to be fixed. So I then asked the question, what caused this to happen? I was told that this is a rare occurrence and there was nothing I could have done to prevent it. Now keep in mind I change my oil every 3000 miles and do all the normal maintenance to keep any car running smoothly. I began to research collapsed fuel tanks in 2014 Ford focuses, and I found that this not a rare occurrence and in fact it has happened to quite a few people. I hope this is found and read by corporate Ford, so a recall can be initiated and I can be compensated.
The first incidence (2/26/18) was while stopped on a highway off-ramp, the engine stalled. The car was able to be restarted and driven. On a second occasion (2/28/18), I was driving and in motion on a residential street when the engine shut off. The brakes and steering was not affected and I was able to stop the car and restart the engine. Prior to this, the check engine light came on and I had scheduled service on the car for 3/7/18 (the earliest they had available). The car has had multiple transmission replacements in the few short years that I have owned it.
When pressing on the gas vehicle hesitates before jerking forward. When placing the vehicle from park to reverse, vehicle will not engage/move in reverse. Constant problems with vehicle while trying to begin driving or while trying to operate basic functions on a daily basis. This needs to be added to the extended warranty/recall for the transmission.
Driving my 2014 Focus engine shut down, pulled over to the shoulder of road in snow storm, all most hit by tractor /trailer, this was on I- 376 in pa, after few minutes car started then stalled again, then car started and was able to continue
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving 40 mph, the accelerator pedal was applied and the vehicle hesitated to accelerate. Additionally, the check engine indicator illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 60,777.
The capless gas tank is trapping air, causing the car to "burp" and sometimes turning engine off even when driving. This has happened numerous times in the last 8 months. But more frequently lately. I was driving down the interstate and my engine cut off from it. Went to get it checked out and the service centers keep giving me the same response everywhere.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving 35 mph, the engine became detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to klaben Ford in kent, Ohio where it was determined that there was a partial collapse of the engine. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 15,171. Updated 8/20/18
