CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013-2014 Honda Accord is showing signs of an electrical problem with the starter failing soon after the 36K mile warranty expires. It's compounded by reports that the OEM battery doesn't have sufficient amps to start the V6 reliably after a year or two.
For now we are rating this problem with the "Beware" seal because it's occurring so soon after the 36K mile warranty expires. The upshot is when your Accord won't start, that's never good, but especially bad when it's just a few years old.
Also once again, owners are complaining that the 2013 Honda Accord seats are uncomfortable. Uncomfortable seats has been a significant complaint with the Accord since the 2008 model year.

My 2013 Honda Accord has an automatic starter and the starter has not been working properly. The vehicle has just over 50K miles on it. When you press the automatic started the vehicle appears to power on but the starter is not working. Each time this happened, it would take 5-10 minutes before it actually starts.
For the past year the car has failed to start intermittently. The only way I've found to get it started is to use an external battery jump. Even then that also fails about a third of the time, though waiting some time enables the jump to work. The dealer says it is "probably" the starter and wants $1,000 to fix it. The problem began at about 40,000 miles and the starter should not fail at that age.
The contact owned a 2013 Honda Accord. While the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware of smoke coming from the front of the vehicle. The contact ran inside the home to fetch a fire extinguisher; however, upon returning to the vehicle, it was totally engulfed in flames. The fire department was contacted and was able to extinguish the fire. A fire report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an insurance lot. There were no injuries sustained, but there was property damage involved. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 06150747. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 17V418000 (electrical system). The approximate failure mileage was 62,000. The vehicle was destroyed. Updated 11/06/17
My car is 2013 Accord bought brand new from gardena Honda and no other mechanic touched it. Since 2013, I have serviced my car at the same location. My car was perfectly fine however, once I received the battery recall letter I decided to take my car into gardena Honda. Please note my car still has less than 30,000 miles on it. August 2017 I went to get my car checked for the battery recall they said everything was fine and that they applied konshi bond to protect bms. Two days later after work my car did not start (stationary). Check engine was on, check steering light on & traction light on plus low pressure on. I immediately felt unsafe to drive my car but had to take it back to Honda to see what they had done to it. Honda said it was not their fault and that now the problem had nothing to do with my battery. Instead, it was my engine wire harness. That needed to be fixed for a price of ~$2,800 but they could lower it to $669.15 + tax I just want to express how disappointed I am in Honda. I bought a Honda because they are supposed to be a reliable car. Back in March 2016 they told me by battery failed the battery test and decided to charge it. November 2016, they made me buy a new battery, at that time my car was still brand new with only 22,000 miles on it. I don't believe this is coincidence. I got a Honda for reliability reasons. I also know you are not supposed to service the car for the same issue 3 times and I shouldn't be concern of my 2013 Honda car that still has less than 30,000 miles of any electrical issues. I am concern of service fraud because I was charge to recharged and replace the battery. One time I was within warranty and the other was just a few months afterward. I am requesting a reimbursement of some manner; it can be monetary or free servicing my car.

Every time I try to start my car it won't start. I have to try maybe 4 or more times before it will start. This is very frustrating because this car is 3 years old. When I'm at work and go to start the car it stags. This is very disturbing. This probably happens everyday. Everything is on but it still takes many attempts to start. I contacted Honda about this problem and they said they have been getting many complaints but didn't offer a solution, said they would get back with me. Reading other complaints I think this need to be addressed.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer (coral springs Honda, located at 9400 w atlantic blvd coral springs, fl 33071) where it was diagnosed that the battery, clamp, and cable needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened case number: 04760408. The failure mileage was 39,080.
Sometimes when the key is turned, nothing happens. The car won't start. I took it to the dealer 16 Aug 2017. They wanted to change the starter. I said no. This is a car with less than 50,000 miles. Sometimes I need to turn the key several times before it starts or cranks or does anything. Dealer also said it wouldn't start with them.
Intermittent starting issues, push start button, car makes grinding noises and clicking, brake then locks down to the floor. After repeated attempts to push button, car will eventually start..this is an intermittent problem, has occured at least 6 times in past 4 months. Does not happen all the time. Have had car to Honda dealer for diagnostic, they cannot find problem but state there has been multiple complaints from other Honda consumers. This issue has no certain time of happening, has occured on a cold and warm start. I never know when car will start or not. Taking car back to Honda service next week to try to diagnose again.
Vehicle is 2013 and I have replaced the started and battery 4 times due to engine failure, it turn on and immediatly dies off, my car has been towed 6 times or more since I bought, I have done all the maintenance all the time and computer never identifies this problem. I am so tired of this trash car, I stillowe on it or else I would just park it on the front lot of a dealer and put a big sign saying do not buy Honda Accord, many problems always. Lastly, I asked the driver for the tow truck which kind of cars he tows the most due to engine failure and he said, laughing "Honda"...first time it fail to start was at 54K miles.
The I4 engine will not start intermittently. The battery is new and fully charged. Many times, I get it started by straightening the steering wheel. The car is 4 years old with 51K miles so outside of warranty. The dealer wants a diagnostic fee to test other components. This is potentially dangerous to consumers for the electrical component but also a consumer hazard in terms of safety not to mention T reputational risk to Honda.
Vehicle has had to be towed twice in the past four months due to failure to start, only clicking sound. Before completely unable to start, I would have to try 3 or more times for it to start. First time I changed the battery an vehicle was ok for a while but then started failing to start intermittently and would only start after several attempts. I do not mind replacing the starter but it bothers me because the vehicle is only 3-4 year old and believe replacing the starter may not fix the problem in the long run as it would have to be replaced with the same starters that are failing. Please help. Thanks.
There are many many complaints on line about the starters on the 2013 Honda Accord - but Honda still has not made a recall"? this is an expensive part to replace and they are not helping anyone" I am afraid I will get stuck somewhere and my car will not start - but it is almost one thousand dollars to get it repaired!!!! I have to crank it many times before it will start. The one shop made me get a new battery - but that did not make any difference. I feel like I will get stranded somewhere unsafe!
The fcw 03 system failure light continues to come on. The car is only four years old and has had several electrical problems. On June 27, 2017 the car cut off on me while driving on the highway due to the fcw 03 code flashing on and off. I always thought that Honda made reliable and safe cars, but this is proving to be untrue. I would appreciate your company addressing the issues at hand with my car. Thanks
Car would not start consistently. Push button start needed to be engaged up to 10 times for car to eventually start. Problem continued to become worse over time. Ultimately the starter needed to be replaced after only 3.5 years and approximately 49,000 miles. Problem can leave driver stranded at remote locations creating an unsafe condition.
Battery terminal corrosion - the factory battery had severe corrosion problems after 2 yrs (unlike any of my other 3 cars). On the third year it died and was replaced with a aaa battery. After 6 months this battery is also showing corrosion. This seems to be a common issue after doing google searches. What's worse is the positive batter cable is not an easy nor economical replacement once the corrosion finds its way inside. I believe the corrosion is happening because of the 'smart charging system' Honda is using on this vehicle. Never seen this problem in my 30+ yrs of owning dozens of cars.
For the last month I have to put the vehicle key into the ignition 4-7 times to start the vehicle. Today, I took my vehicle to pep boys auto parts in el paso, tx and they diagnosed the vehicle having problems with the starter. The mechanic told me that I need to change the starter because it is wearing out and is a rarity because it is not suppose to happen to a Honda Accord that is only 3 + years old. I have a 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe and all engine parts are operating normally. Unbelieveable that my Honda Accord is breaking down on me. Please look into this and let me know if there is a recall.
Auto has 37K miles and battery has been replaced twice since new. Recently, push button start has failed, requiring multiple tries in kinder to start car. Dealer indicated that starter was defective and was replaced for roughly $720. Not covered under warranty. Internet search reveals that many other owners having similar problems.
