CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Nissan Altima has multiple problem trends including the CVT transmission, and now that this model is out of warranty, it earns our "Avoid Like The Plague" badge.

Owners complain about vibration and transmission failure related to the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), a whining noise from the power steering pump, and constant windshield problems that appear to be the result of poor design.

Be warned: the 2014 & 2015 Nissan Altima appears to share these same problems.

It's obvious that Nissan knows about their bad transmissions. After mine went out, I contacted Nissan and they indicated they only applied and extended warranty on transmissions from 2003-2010. Why wouldn't they work on fixing the problem. From research, it appears that this is an ongoing issue!

Just to add to several annoying complaints about this car! When first starting the car in the morning, back out of the garage, place in park, and this ungodly whine appears until car is warmed up! If I put it back in gear, it goes away, put it back in park and, wala, holy whining. Bought it back to the dealership that charged me $115 to clean out the pine needles and leaf debris out of the heater box several months later, that Nissan wouldn't cover! They told me that it's normal! (WTF) NORMAL? I've been a heavy equipment and diesel truck mechanic for over 35 years! I think I can tell what's normal and what's not! So I left been there another time after my windshield cracked twice in the lower RH corner that they haven't heard of any complaints yet! My Wife likes the car but she just pushes the start button and off she goes! My next car I will be going back to FORD!!
