NHTSA Defect Investigations for the 2017 Ford F-150

The Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) is an office within the NHTSA which investigates serious safety problems in the design, construction or performance of vehicles. The NHTSA is authorized to order manufacturers to recall and repair vehicles, if the ODI finds a safety issue. NHTSA investigations for the 2017 Ford F-150, both ongoing and closed, are listed below:

    Summary: The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received five Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) alleging fires resulting from activation of the ZF TRW or Takata seatbelt pretensioner during a crash in model year 2015-2018 Ford F-150 vehicles. Two fires self-extinguished, while the other three vehicles were totally destroyed by the fire. The sequence of events leading to fire propagating inside the B pillar has not been fully established. A Preliminary Evaluation has been opened to assess the scope, frequency, and safety-related consequence of the alleged defect.The VOQ's associated with the opening of this investigation are: 11078447, 11111822, 11097937,11014688, and 11113160
